I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about the movie INCEPTION. He started off by saying he thought it was this years HANGOVER because he thought it was overrated. This comment reminded me that I hate critics and also that I hate the word OVERRATED, or at least when it is used as a criticism on a movie or any other form of media for that matter. My problem is that it is more of a criticism of the people who like the film and not a criticism of the film itself. Saying a movie is overrated is actually saying that the people who like the movie like it to much. Doesn’t make any sense to me.
Anywhatsit... on a COMPLETELY UNRELATED NOTE...
Does anyone remember what was going on in the news before the oil disaster? In a few months are we going to be saying, “ Does anyone remember what was going on in the news before the gay marriage ban overturned again thing?” I know people have there strong opinions on this matter but there really are more important and DIRE things in need of our attention. I was in New Orleans when I was a very young boy and not old enough to appreciate it. I am very much hoping to go back again without need of a bio-hazard mask and fly fishing waders.
My problem isn’t with pro or anti gay marriage people or with the Gulf being overshadowed by it, my problem is with hypocrisy. If you are really worried about the “sanctity of marriage” first you should outlaw divorce, you know, that thing that the majority of marriages end in! That thing that daily spits on the supposed sanctity of marriage! And what about Las Vegas? In Las Vegas getting married is tantamount to ordering a Whopper and Fries from the comfort of your automobile! THEN you can worry about stopping certain people from entering in to that statistically almost certainly doomed legal contract called marriage. I don’t see how gay people getting married affects me at all. I don’t see how much of anything affects my marriage except for the choices my wife and I make within that marriage.
To paraphrase Adam Carolla, think 20 or 30 years into the future and see if there is gay marriage or not. You know that there will be, so stop wasting your time now. We could have skipped over the black civil rights movement in the earlier part of the century if everyone did that about black equality. It’s like trying to beat back the tide with a Whiffle Bat; it doesn’t do much of anything and your gonna look pretty silly out there all by your lonesome getting your Dockers wet.
I guess all I’m trying to say is, people, stop screaming about same sex unions destroying the sanctity of marriage because it isn’t a legitimate claim. Let the homosexuals get married, and then when, or if, the gay divorce rate climbs higher than the straight divorce rate in this country, start complaining. There are more important things to spend your energy on right now.
But what I’m REALLY trying to say is, go see INCEPTION...I thought it was very good.
Son, it WILL destroy the sanctity of marriage! Not individual marriages, but marriage as a whole! It was designed BY GOD as a union between a man and a woman! That's that!
ReplyDeletePlus, there was a vote on this, and the MAJORITY voted against Prop. 8. What happens to those who vote when some judge comes along and overturns it? Do our votes not count anymore?
It's a sad state of affairs our world is in! And we can certainly fight about it. We can't fight for the Gulf oil spill. BP and the government and other companies are fighting for that! But we can certainly fight for what we believe is right!! Marriage between a man and a man or between a woman and a women is NOT right!!! That's how the people voted, and that's how it should be!!!
Enough of my "rant." By the way, I have NO plans to see Inception!!
Well first I have to agree with you jim inception is a good piece of entertainment and people should go see it. Also the whole sanctity of marriage thing is entirely more affected by the ridiculous divorce rate. I also heard an interesting fact today that both sides pro and against prop 8 have spent the most money ever in support and against any law ever which seems like a ridiculous thing when there are people starving in our country which is a first world country. I could go on and on but you did with my opinions but what you said is true we as a people have better things to do with our time and money than focus on something that doesn't affect us at all

The way I understand it, Prop8 was ruled unconstitutional. That is one of those checks and balance things I believe. If we an just make up rules without them being constitutionally sound then THAT is a real slippery slope. Step 1 in the "no gay marriage" process is to change the constitution. We can't skip steps in the system we set up. Also, I see the perversion of heterosexual marriage in places such as Las Vegas and the way people get married and divorced so willy-nilly as a very disturbing attack on traditional marriage. We are keeping the gays out of something that most of us heteros abuse and disrespect. Sanctity? And my comments about the oil spill. These things still need our attention and you always see some other news story come up and take over. We get so distracted that it scares me sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAlso, marriage is an idea that is augmented by beliefs the world over. As far as I know the Bible says that a man and a woman should cleave together. Cleaving is between 2 married people and God, marriage is a contract between 2 people and the state of California. I was cleaved to my wife Grace through the Lord before we were married. No one and nothing can destroy the idea of marriage because you can't destroy an idea. The idea can be augmented by various religious and cultural beliefs but they are still valid. Are 2 married atheists not really married? Follow the logic and we'd have to outlaw all marriages not between 2 evangelical Christians. Do Buddhist marriages not count? I'm just saying that if you follow the logic all the way through and apply the commonly believed Christian stance on marriage to all marriages world wide than most of those marriages wouldn't count and would be attacks on it's sanctity.
